ICON<\/a>\u2019s retail display specialists were asked by H&M\u2019s Creative Print Manager to further a marketing idea originally presented at a store launch in Singapore. This integrated marketing plan was social in nature, needing to create a significant amount of buzz online.<\/p>\n

ICON created five oversized handbags that were dropped at several key London locations in a very memorable PR stunt. The bags were used in a later campaign for the launch of David Beckham\u2019s underwear line.<\/p>\n

These incredible bags were created using a wooden framework that gave the structure its signature shape. A Dibond aluminum composite panel system was hung from this wooden framework, with digital graphics placed on the side panels.<\/p>\n

\"a6cf5495821845769b2b9064bd963d0d_f596\"<\/a>Each bag was constructed on site. And according to ICON<\/a>,<\/p>\n

\u201d\u2026The 3-dimensional ends were hooked into position and secured from inside the bag. The sides and ends were squared up and a special access hatch was closed and the exposed edges were covered with a vinyl strip to give a seamless finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the bags\u2019 handles proved to be most challenging, in fact a mixture of plumbing equipment and computer cable were the end result. Another key challenge that effected the designers was weight, not wanting the bags to topple over in the wind, a specialized engineer was involved in calibrating the precise weight needed to avoid such an incident.<\/p>\n

A corresponding social media campaign encouraged shoppers to take their pictures with the oversized retail bags and in return each customer received store coupons.<\/p>\n

This project won the 2012 Visual Merchandising Awards for Most Outstanding Feature\/Prop.<\/p>\n
