In his latest job, Porzondek specified an aluminum composite panel; a material he had never used. <!--more--><br \/>\n<br \/>\nWith a corporate sign to fabricate for an energy consulting firm, Unique Technical Services, Inc., Porzondek thought he would begin with .125 inch thick aluminum plate. Instead of painting the milled areas black, like he had intended, he was recommended Dibond aluminum composite material. By utilizing the ACM, he wouldn\u2019t have the added step of painting the cut sides due to the black polyurethane core.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe aluminum signage for the Michigan consulting firm started from a typical 4\u2019 x 8\u2019 sheet of Dibond – sourced from a local plastics supplier. The final size of the sign would span over five feet wide and nearly three feet high. The result would be an understated, yet elegant, silver-industrial sign for a young, local company.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1.jpg\" alt=\"boss, fabrication, mike, porzondek, dibond, aluminum, composite, material, photography, mike, porzondek\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1.jpg 1512w, https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2016\/10\/Boss_Fabrication_Mike_Porzondek_Dibond_aluminum_composite_material_photography_Mike_Porzondek_1-670x670.jpg 670w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Porzondek applied no paint to the surface of the aluminum panel; instead opting to use the material as is. Large block letters in modern typeset featuring the company\u2019s initials were milled into the main area of the sign with smaller type spelling out the full name below. Once the finished signage was put into place at the company\u2019s headquarters, the signage took on a three-dimensional effect with drop cast shadows against a brick facade.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nPorzondek focused on keeping the panel flat on the CNC table while milling the letters. On the back side of the sign – to keep the sections that were cut out from bowing – and to add some rigidity, aluminum was angled to form a 1.5 inch frame. This frame also served to create distance between the sign and the building.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nWhile it was an accident that Porzondek came across Dibond, he has this to say about using the material again, \u201cThis was my first time using Dibond, but definitely won\u2019t be my last.
