Volunteers were played a boring voicemail with some asked to doodle and others just to listen. The study found that doodlers remembered 29 percent more details from the voicemail than the non-doodlers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/e0f9878798453d7d684be19f267259db_f396.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/e0f9878798453d7d684be19f267259db_f396.jpg\" alt=\"e0f9878798453d7d684be19f267259db_f396\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Shaw has doodled for years during airplane flights or while watching television at home. Her favorite rigid medium for doodling is a piece of Fome-Cor\u00ae board cut with a sharp artist\u2019s knife to a purse-sized 6-inch by 6-inch square. She decorates the Fome-Cor board with a black Identi\u00ae-pen permanent marker by Sakura.<\/p>\n<p>I love doodling on Fome-Cor board\u2019s smooth white surface with a super black pen,\u201d said Shaw. \u201cIt\u2019s rigid enough that I can safely put it in my purse. Add one pen and you\u2019re good to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fome-Cor board by 3A Composites USA was the first foam board on the market and is still the board that graphic artists\u2019 ask for by name. It consists of extruded polystyrene foam bonded between various high-quality papers that feature a smooth surface for decorating. Fome-Cor board is lightweight, rigid, warp-resistant and easy to cut. Fome-Cor board is available in the 1\/8-inch, 3\/16-inch and 3\/8-inch thicknesses in standard sheet sizes ranging from 20 inches by 30 inches to 60 inches by 120 inches.<\/p>\n<p>3A Composites USA provided Fome-Cor board in the 3\/16-inch thickness and Bright White color for Chesterfield Arts\u2019 \u201cDoodle Party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/4dd3a0cf15bfe84d5f1dffbedb4d16e1_f392.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-361\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/4dd3a0cf15bfe84d5f1dffbedb4d16e1_f392.jpg\" alt=\"4dd3a0cf15bfe84d5f1dffbedb4d16e1_f392\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>Shaw \u2013 who donated her time to help a class of 14 students learn to doodle \u2013 said it\u2019s important for adults to participate in the creation of art because it\u2019s something that we all start out doing as kids. She recalled her young nephew\u2019s comical remark when she told him several years back that she was returning to school to learn to draw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI already know how to draw,\u201d said the boy, then age 6. \u201cI\u2019m going to school to learn to read.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all used to know how to draw,\u201d said Shaw. \u201cWe lose our interest in creating art as adults. \u2026 Doodling is so easy. It\u2019s just lines and shapes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To make the doodling process even more simple than free-hand drawing, Shaw encouraged students to incorporate unique shapes into their doodle art by tracing some of her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stencilgirlproducts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">StencilGirl<\/a> stencils.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe arts are important in education,\u201d said Annie Spiller, director of education and outreach, Chesterfield Arts. \u201cIt teaches us culture, individuality and self-expression \u2013 all of which are important in creating a well-rounded human being.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/ab3dd9a20153c87b542e2c93dc148653_f393.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-362\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/ab3dd9a20153c87b542e2c93dc148653_f393.jpg\" alt=\"ab3dd9a20153c87b542e2c93dc148653_f393\" width=\"299\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/ab3dd9a20153c87b542e2c93dc148653_f393.jpg 299w, https:\/\/cdn.graphicdisplay.3acompositesusa.com\/2015\/04\/ab3dd9a20153c87b542e2c93dc148653_f393-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a>Chesterfield Arts provides quality and diverse programming in the visual, performing, and literary arts, promotes public art and arts education, and serves as a resource for arts information in the West St. Louis County (Mo.) region, according to the organization\u2019s mission statement.<\/p>\n<p>Donations \u2013 such as the Fome-Cor board provided for the \u201cDoodle Party\u201d \u2013 are always appreciated by Chesterfield Arts, according to Spiller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFome-Cor board is such a staple,\u201d said Spiller. \u201cWe use it in just about anything we do here \u2013 from mounting artwork to creating mixed media drawings to painting. \u2026 Donations play a huge role in supporting non-profit organizations.
