Historic renovations require mindful adjustments to ensure the integrity of the original design. The historic restoration of the Grade II listed Manor House in Lindley, Huddersfield, UK, entailed readapting the original design into a modern boutique hotel.
The sign solution experts at Hartbrights were commissioned to complete the interior and exterior signage materials. As the representatives at Hartbrights describe, “We were approached to provide suitable internal and external signage that reflected the quality of the hotel and stayed true to the building’s historic roots.”
The designers chose a modern approach that blended both modernity and traditional elements by utilizing high tech LED lighting with integrated bronzed Dibond aluminum composite material. The mixture of the two, with both illuminated and non-illuminated signs, required a total of nearly 40 interior signs.
Hartbrights explain, “We chose bronze finish Dibond with white text and LED lighting where required for the wayfinding and door signs. The room numbers comprised bronze Dibond and LED lit 3D letters with 24ct gold leaf finish.”
The bronzed-look of the Dibond ACM creates a more traditional design, looking aged as if it were the building’s original signage with the integrated LEDs and white lettering offering a clean, classy and modern aesthetic.
The designers did do one ultra modern bright red neon sign in the hotel’s bar that reads, “I’m feeling supersonic, give me gin and tonic.” A small but tasteful element that reminds you you’re in an adapted façade.
The signage in its entirety required different styles to blend in to the various elements of the façade. For instance, the entrance signage, which was mounted above the doorway, utilized 3D lettering with a 24ct gold leaf finish that blends into the original Georgian architecture outside.
Hartbrights further describes, “To the left of the entrance we installed a reception sign. LED lit with more 3D, 24ct finished lettering alongside standard white, the sign makes good use of the bronze Dibond to create an attractive welcome to guests.”
More bronze Dibond panels with incorporated 3D acrylic lettering were installed throughout the grounds to provide both wayfinding and a cohesive signage solution.
