At the Morley Nelson Community Center in West Boise, public artist Marcus Pierce completed a three-paneled mural named “Vision of Species.” The pieces were created using acrylic and automotive polyurethane on a Dibond aluminum composite backing.
The print experts at ArtisanHD of Scottsdale, Arizona partnered with photographer Andy Lara for a large scale print that was “pleasantly challenging,” as Artisan describes. Andy Lara is a still photographer, videographer and Creative Director who in the past traveled the world photographing bands.
In London, a powerhouse team completed a stunning mobile podcast studio coined The Pod. Fathom Architects in collaboration with Charcoalblue, dn&co Design Consultants, Sweco UK M&E Consultants and Box Deluxe Construction, completed the project in 2017. For their client Stanhope, Mitsui Fudosan, Aimco, the team designed a movable, temporary structure to be used for both podcasters and musicians. The 226-foot modular studio seats six people and is constructed with state-of-the-art recording technologies.
Although traditionally an exterior signage material, Dibond continues to be integrated into the world of fine art. Its rigidity and smooth surface enables the material to be painted, mounted and cut with ease allowing a variety of artists around the world to utilize it. Each of the featured artists transforms the material, showcasing both versatility and innovation.
Monica Bonvicini is a Berlin-based artist who has rocked the visual arts community for decades. Her substrates, like her context, have no boundaries. Her pieces, “…investigate the relationship between architecture, power, gender, space, surveillance and control—is translated into works that question the meaning of making art, the ambiguity of language, and the limits and possibilities attached to the ideal of freedom,” she describes.
The Luce Museum at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville opened in 2008 with an abundance of historical displays set to showcase the unique history of the University. Available to students, faculty and the Platteville community, the displays and archives explore the University’s rich historical references dating back to the 1860s.
