Charles McGee is an African-American artist living in Detroit, Michigan. He was born in Clemson, South Carolina in the year 1924. When he was ten years old, his family moved to the “Motor City” where he is living and creating to this day. (more…)
Photographer, Levon Biss, makes the microscopic world visible to the unaided eye. His exhibit, Microsculpture, is a macro photography project that captures insects in all their detailed-glory on large-scale printed Dibond aluminum composite. What started out as a side project in his home, featuring bugs caught by his son, grew into a dream project worthy of entomologists from the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. (more…)
British artist, Justin Hibbs, transforms influences from the modern, digital world into abstract art using Dibond. His collection, once held at the London gallery Carroll/Fletcher, included sculptures, paintings and site-specific installations. Recently, Sean O'Hagan at The Guardian interviewed Albert Oehlen about his Gagosian Gallery exhibition in Mayfair. O'Hagan’s interview explores the artist’s skeletal tree paintings, but also is an examination of the artist himself. Oehlen’s interpretations of trees, being abstract and minimalistic in nature, are painted on the artists’ substrate of choice, Dibond aluminum composite. (more…)
Muralist, David Fichter of Cambridge, Massachusetts, recently worked with a local elementary school to assist in the design and construction of a large mural showcasing healthy living in the town of Danvers. As part of a grant, from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the John Thomas Schroeder Foundation, Fichter oversaw the project and assisted the students in their endeavor, which was sponsored by the DanversCares community Coalition. Genesis Imaging, in London, recently completed a large-scale exhibition project for artist Gayle Chong Kwan’s ‘Anthropo-scene.’ The project utilized several different substrates, in large and small format, to include, “…Direct to Media UV prints on Dibond, marine plywood and glass, Lambda C-type prints, Giclee Fine Art prints and Bespoke framing for the multilayer installation that explores the built environment, strata and waste, in relation to the City of London,” according to experts at Genesis. Lard Buurman, trained Dutch photographer, travels the world examining the every day life of human beings. Starting his photographic exploration in Europe, he traveled to China to examine urbanization in the second and third world. Interestingly, that’s what brought the artist to Africa where his “Africa Junctions—Capturing the City” photography series was created. (more…)
The series, “Brand New Paint Job” by Canadian artist Jon Rafmann, utilizes Google 3D Warehouse models as templates for his artist renderings of famous works. He, in essence, “wallpapers” these rooms with art exposing the idea of what if a canvas hadn’t been the artists’ preferred substrate, but interior design instead. (more…)
